Government of Pakistan Approves Russian Vaccine Sputnik V For Emergency Use

The government is vouching in favor of another vaccine against coronavirus under “emergency use authorization”. The vaccine that got approval is the Russian Sputnik V. A local pharmaceutical company now holds the license for the import and distribution of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V.

The decision comes after analyzing the gap between the availability and demand of vaccines in the country. Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine is the third vaccine that got approval.

UAE is also using Sputnik V for emergency cases. Hungary is also actively importing and using the Sputnik V vaccine. Russia aims to keep the price of the vaccine low and aims to introduce it in the Indian market ‘very soon’. The price in question is around $10.

“In a meeting conducted by the registration board of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap), another vaccine has also been given EUA (emergency use authorization). This Sputnik V was developed with the backing of the Russian Develop­ment Investment Fund,” the official statement from the Government reads.

Coronavirus Vaccines In the Country

Over the last ten days, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has given the green light to the Oxford University-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine. Another vaccine by the name of Sinopharm got the green light. The Chinese state owns the Sinopharm’s Covid-19 vaccine. Pakistan now allows these three for emergency use.

“Sputnik V is the world’s first registered vaccine based on a well-studied human adenoviral vector-based platform,” said the information available on the Sputnik V website. “It currently ranks among top-10 candidate vaccines approaching the end of clinical trials and the start of mass production on the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) list.”

The Sputnik V post-registration clinical trial in Russia had 40,000 volunteers. Sputnik V will have more clinical trials in the UAE, India, Venezuela, and Belarus.

Last week, Hungary became the first European Union country to approve the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. Hungary will make use of the vaccine for the vaccination of the mass public. The UAE also is now authorizing the use of the vaccine. This makes UAE the 12th country outside of Russia which has authorized its use.

Russia is one of the countries that have put their differences aside when marketing their state-owned Sputnik V. The adoption rate for Sputnik V is high. More and more countries are giving approvals and are preferring the double dose vaccine over others.

“Russia’s state-owned Sputnik-V has developed a double-dose vaccine, which is administered by syringes,” said the Pakistani officials.

A local pharmaceutical AGP, he said, has been given authorization as the sole importer and distributor of the Russian vaccine.

The World’s Largest Coronavirus Vaccine Manufacturing Facility Caught a Massive Fire, but Authorities Claim No Damage Was Done to The COVID-19 Vaccine Area

A fire broke out at a building under construction at the Serum Institute of India on Thursday. Officials claim at least five people are dead in the incident. The Serum Institute of India is under contract to produce about 50 million doses a month of the Oxford University and AstraZeneca vaccine.

Although the fire filled the sky with smoke, authorities claim that the fire will not affect the production of the vaccine.

At least five people are dead after a large fire broke out at the site of the world’s largest vaccine producer. The factory is located in western India.

Images showed black smoke coming from a building which was still under construction at the Serum Institute of India’s facilities in the city of Pune. The fire got under control, but officials later told that five people were dead.

The chairman and CEO of the  Serum Institute of India expressed his sorrow on the loss of lives and extended his condolences towards the families of the departed.

Murlidhar Mohol, mayor of Pune city, said the bodies found in the rubble after the fire was extinguished were likely construction workers. There is some construction also going on at the premises of the factory. The cause of the fire is unclear at this time.

50 Million COVID-19 Vaccines in the Works

Serum Institute of India is under contract to produce about 50 million doses a month of the coronavirus. These vaccines are from Oxford University and Astrazeneca at other facilities on the company’s complex. In an interview with The Associated Press last month, Poonawalla said he’s aiming to increase production from 1.5 billion doses to 2.5 billion annually. He aims to do this by the end of 2021. The facility under construction was part of the expansion. Poonawalla said the fire will not affect the production of the coronavirus vaccine, known locally as Covishield.

He further went on to assure the government about the COVID-19 vaccine production. He says it will not take any effect because of the fire. Prime Minister of India Mr. Nirender Modi is of the opinion that India will provide vaccine for the whole of India. In addition, he believes India will also export it to the whole world.

India recently approved the AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine for emergency use earlier this month along with another developed in the country. Approval for the AstraZeneca shot in the U.S. appears to be imminent.

The Smart Tags can be attached to your keychain or ANY OTHER thing and would be able to be tracked using bluetooth on devices across the globe. The functionality focuses on making use of bluetooth present in billions of devices to create a smart network. Essentially, if you forget your wallet somewhere and it has a Smart Tag on it, it will ‘talk’ to the nearest device that it is here. The device will add the GPS information to the identification information from the Smart Tag. It will then be visible on the account that is tied to the Smart Tag. This will make finding devices and stuff easy by just looking at the Smart Tag app in your phone.

A new notification has been popping up on everyone’s WhatsApp telling them that their terms and policies are being updated. Users have until February 8 to accept these new terms, and WhatsApp has indicated that if users do not accept the new terms and agreements, they are urged to delete the account.

This new update has caused a lot of concern over the new privacy policy, especially with respect to data sharing with its parent company Facebook.

What is WhatsApp sharing with Facebook?

WhatsApp’s updated policy says that it will share your personal info to “facilitate, support and integrate their activities and improve our services.”

WhatsApp automatically collects information from you and now it will be shared with Facebook and all the other companies directly or indirectly working with Facebook.

This information, coupled with your Facebook, messenger, and Instagram info means Whatsapp knows everything about you.

Facebook will collect and share user activity, how often you use WhatsApp, the features you use. Moreover your profile photo, your status, and ‘about’ information is also shared.

It also collects device-level information like what device you are using, your mobile network, and IP address, among others. It also collects and uses precise location information from your device, but with your permission.

“We may use the information we receive from them, and they may use the information we share with them, to help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market our Services and their offerings, including the Facebook Company Products,” WhatsApp says.

Your information will be used by Facebook and its other products and businesses to make suggestions for you, personalize features and content, help you complete purchases and transactions, and show relevant offers and ads across Facebook Company Products.

Facebook products include Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Portal-branded devices, Oculus Products, Facebook Shops, Spark AR Studio, Audience Network, NPE Team apps, and any other features, apps, technologies, software, products, or services offered by Facebook Inc.

What about your messages?

WhatsApp has reiterated that all messages are end-to-end encrypted. This means that neither WhatsApp, not third parties will access or read your messages.

“Nothing you share on WhatsApp, including your messages, photos, and account information, will be shared onto Facebook or any of our other family of apps for others to see, and nothing you post on those apps will be shared on WhatsApp for others to see,” WhatsApp says.

WhatsApp doesn’t store your messages once they’ve been delivered. Messages are stored on the user’s device and not on WhatsApp’s servers. Once messages are delivered, they are deleted from their servers.

In the course of delivering a message, WhatsApp’s servers store undelivered messages in encrypted form for up to 30 days and if a message is still undelivered after 30 days, WhatsApp claims to delete it.

“When a user forwards media within a message, we store that media temporarily. It is in encrypted form on our servers to aid in the more efficient delivery of additional forwards,” WhatsApp adds.

The Payment Engine

Now that WhatsApp has launched a payments feature, it says that if you use WhatsApp Pay, information on payment accounts and transaction information is processed by the company. This is the information required to complete the transaction such as payment method, shipping details, and transaction amount.

“If you use our payment services available in your country or territory, our privacy practices are described in the applicable payments privacy policy,” it adds.

Data Sharing with Businesses and Third-part services

WhatsApp recently launched WhatsApp Business, which allows businesses to contact and communicate with customers through its app. This could include making purchases through the app. This can also include businesses contacting you, sending you order confirmations, flight tickets, tickets to other events, etc.

“Some businesses will be able to choose WhatsApp’s parent company, Facebook, to securely store messages and respond to customers. Facebook will not automatically use your messages to inform the ads that you see.  But, businesses will be able to use chats they receive for their own marketing purposes, which may include advertising on Facebook. You can always contact that business to learn more about its privacy practices,” WhatsApp says.

The FAQ section has an updated policy and changes.

Do You Have Any Choice?

The clear answer to that is, NONE. To continue using WhatsApp, you MUST accept the new terms and conditions. If you don’t want to, the only option is deleting your account.

For those who have already accepted the new terms and conditions, but don’t want to share data with Facebook and its affiliates, they have 30 days to opt-out and delete their account.

The only other choice left out is to move to a more secure messaging service like signal or telegram.

Will Deleting Your WhatsApp Account Help?

WhatsApp policy says that when you delete your account, your undelivered messages will be deleted from its servers. Other information it no longer needs to operate will also be deleted.

To delete your account from WhatsApp. Go to settings > Account and select ‘Delete my account’.

However, even if you delete your account, it does not delete the information other users have relating to you. They will not delete information such as a copy of the messages you sent to others.
